Few New Brews - 1/29

Samichlaus Bier - 14% - $5.49 / 12 oz. Bottle
- A boozy, malty bit of awesomeness. Pours thick and is viscous as all get out. One of the most legendary doppelbocks ever made. This batch is from 2007. This is a beer to enjoy today or cellar for a few years. A very special treat.

Abita Marti Gras Bock- 6.5% - $9.99 / 6 pack
- Marti Gras is right around the corner. While I have never had this beer I hear it is an incredibly sessionable and pleasing brew. This is the same style as Rogue Dead Guy.

New Beer - 1/27

Lots of stuff this week.

Caldera IPA - 6.1% - $11.99 /6 pack
- A beast. Truly Northwest style IPA. Piney and resinous as all can be. Jsut enough malt backbone to make it outstanding. Best comes in a can! Rockin beer.

Caldera Pale - 5.5% - $11.99 / 6 pack
- Another very hoppy interpretation of a classic style. Very well pulled off. Good body and Cascade hops for a pleasing brew. Also in a can for pure goodness.

Caldera Amber - 5.6% - $11.99 / 6 pack
- My first thought was "This is Terrapin's Big Hoppy Monster's little brother"...quite a comparison. By far one of the bet ambers I have ever had. Malty and dry with just enough hop presence to make you glad you drink beer.

Bards Gold Gluten Free - 4.6% - $8.99 / 6 pack
- I have a hard time with this style, but this one is way better than any other of the style I have yet to try. I'm just glad to have something celiac sufferers can drink with joy.

Harpoon Celtic Ale - 5.4% - $8.99 / 6 pack
- A sessionable Irish red ale...just in time to warmed up for St. Patrick's day.

New Beer - 1/15

Only one to report on, but what a one!

St. Bernardus Tripel - 8% - $9.99/750 Ml bottle
- This thing is everything you love about Belgian tripels turned up a bit. Huge fruit and estery yeast goodness. Pours Pale amber with a classically massive off white head. Awesome stuff.

New Beers (and a cigar too!) - 1/14

There are a lot of good things that are on the horizon...including a few new breweries to the state. Since they are not here yet I can't talk about them, but be watching as you can be sure we'll have them in once they get here.

Here is what has come in that is new/new to us.

Omegang Ommegeddon - 8% - $12.99/750 ml bottle
- A Brett monster. This one is a funky beast for sure, but one you can't stop drinking.

Thames Welsh ESB - 6% - $4.99/17 oz bottle
- An amazing Welsh beer. You don't see to many of them over here. A great, if unique interpretation of the style.

Ayinger Jharhundert - 5.5% - $3.49/17 oz bottle
- Insanely well balanced light lager that is one of the best interpretations of the style in the world. The distributor only has a few cases so who knows how long it will last.

Stone Levitation - 4.4% - $11.99/6 pack
- The most sessionable beer of all time. A personal favorite. Read my picks of the week for a bit more info.

Sweetwater Blue - 4.9% - $8.49/6 pack
- After much asking we brought this one in. Crazy popular.

CAO Gold Corona Gorda - $4.99
- A mild Nicaraguan that is big, but smooth.

Picks Of The Week - 1/11/10

Belhaven Scottish Ale

Winter is the time for digging into the covers, watching useless movies, and wishing for summer. A good beer is always helpful in this pursuit. This warming, nutty, Scottish ale is one of the best winter brews in my book. Ratebeer - 96/100 $3.99/single

Stone Levitation Ale

The most sessionable beer...ever...seriously. Easy drinking and smooth. Perfect in every way. No, this beer will not make you the most respected hardcore drinker on the block, but who cares? Ratebeer - 96/100 $11.99/ six pack

Schlenkerla Weizen

Here is a toast to plain weird...even in the beer world. Smoked malt in a wheat beer. That takes stones...even for Germans. A truly unique offering that is as pleasing as it is strange. Ratebeer - 88/100 $4.49/single

Back On The Horse

Finally the beer store is wired and internet ready. About time we moved into the 20th that it is gone and all. At least we are here now.

Now it is time to get serious about updating this bad boy.
